THE SUN IS STILL SHINING, THE CROWDS HAVE GONE AND THE HIDDEN GEM OF WEST PENTIRE AWAITS ...........
We may have put away our bucket and spade for another season and packed away the barbecue but there really is no better time to enjoy The Manor House amongst the scenic tranquility of West Pentire and the neighbouring village of Crantock.
Once again Crantock Beach viewed from our living room, featured in The Sunday Times best beaches. It mentions the River Gannel rolling into the Atlantic across the wide sands of Crantock Beach. Those of you who are regular guests to the house will have seen that the storms of 2014 had created a sand bar at the bottom of the Pentire Headland which meant that the currents were stronger across Crantock Beach. This led to the lifeguards on the beach altering the usual position of the flags marking the safe swimming area. This geographical phenomenon last happened ten years ago and machinery was brought down to the beach to shift the sand bar.
Have you discovered the drawings and verse in the caves on Crantock Beach? ......... If you need a little help finding them ask a lifeguard on the beach but here is a little clue .... start your walk down to the beach alongside the C-Bay cafe and soon you will find the right cave as you head towards the Gannel!
The Manor House is fortunate to be situated on the West Pentire headland with both Crantock beach on one side and Porth Joke (known to locals as Polly Joke) beach on the other. Last Christmas our family enjoyed a beautifully sunny walk across the beach and up the cliffs on the other side and on to Holywell Bay. It is a walk I can thoroughly recommend and is a favourite with all ages including any four legged friends staying at The Manor House too. We were delighted to spot a large group of grey seals near the rocks also enjoying Christmas Day in the sunshine, their way!
Let me know your stories of discovery from your visits to the beach and on your coastal walks or maybe a favourite place to enjoy an evening meal or cream tea! Share your discoveries of this beautiful part of the county of Cornwall on this blog! Our favourite for an evening meal is the Hawkins Arms in Zelah - a tiny village hidden away off the A30 but only fifteen minutes by car from The Manor House. The landlord Mr Hill and his wife (no relation!) are extremely hospitable but most importantly the chef cooks the most delicious food and it's a lovely old traditional pub. Check out the daily specials! What's your discovery? .......... Let us know ......
